Frankfort High School junior Colton Crum took second in the Indiana High School Athletic Association state pole vault finals Friday at Indiana University in Bloomington.
After clearing 17 feet, Crum looked in good position to win his first state title. However, defending state champion and senior Ryan Cripe of Carmel went 17 feet, 3 inches to take the title after Crum missed on all three attempts at that height.
This was Crum’s third third top-three finish at the state meet. Two years ago, he finished second as a freshman. When the event was moved indoors last year, Crum finished third.
Clinton County had one other individual at state as Clinton Prairie’s Owen Lloyd competed int he 110-meter high hurdles. He ran in the first heat and finished with a time of 15.17 seconds. However, his time of 15.17 seconds was 0.44 seconds off qualifying for the finals.
