Infant Child Listed in Stable Condition After Nearly Drowning in Ditch

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a near drowning incident that took place in the Frankfort area this evening. At approximately 3:45 pm, first responders were dispatched to the 1100 block N SR 39 for an 11 month old that was located face down in Blinn Ditch.

The guardian of the child stated he had left her sight for approximately 5 minutes while she was occupied in the house. The child was able to get out the front door and for some unknown reason ventured into the back yard and fell into the ditch that was approximately 2 feet deep of water. When the guardian went looking for the child, she located him face down in the water.

When first responders arrived on scene, the infant was out of the water and was starting to become responsive.  The infant was transported to IU Hospital in Frankfort where he was then transported via Statflight Helicopter to Riley Children’s Hospital.

The child is listed as stable condition at this time. There are no criminal charges pending at this time.
