Woman Sustains Head Trauma in ORV Accident

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ORV incident involving injury. At approximately 8:07 pm this evening, first responders were dispatched to the 2900 block on Old SR 25 in Lafayette for a woman who was thrown from an off road vehicle.

Mary Haworth (45) of Lafayette was riding passenger with a male subject on a 1996 Polaris Explorer when the transmission on the machine locked up throwing both occupants off and onto the roadway. Neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

She sustained severe head trauma as a result of the incident and was transported via ambulance to IU Arnett in Lafayette for further treatment. She is listed in stable condition but will be under intensive care at this time.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident and further investigation and charges are pending at this time. Conservation Officers want to stress the importance of wearing helmets and other safety gear when operating or riding on Off Road Vehicles.
