An Indianapolis man is behind bars Tuesday morning after lying about his identity to police, he was also in possession of drugs and a firearm.
This morning, just after midnight, Trooper Brandon Fletcher along with Senior Trooper Joel Flores stopped a vehicle near 38th and Capital Avenue for driving without headlights. During the course of the stop a backseat passenger was allegedly found to be in possession of a handgun, synthetic marijuana and marijuana. The passenger, who could not produce an identification, identified himself to police as a 17 year old male. He was arrested and transported to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. While at the JDC he became verbally uncooperative and refused to speak to anybody. After further investigation by Marion County Sheriff’s Department Staff the male in custody was identified as 21 year old Davontaye Holifield of Indianapolis, he was also found to have an outstanding felony warrant.
Holifield was transported to the adult jail and booked on the preliminary charges of a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of a synthetic substance and false informing. These charges are merely accusations, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and determine formal charges.
The diligent work by the staff at the Marion County Juvenile Center helped us take a violent felon off the streets. The public is encouraged to report criminal activity to crime stoppers at 317-232-TIPS
