Election Races Taking Shape With One Week Left to Register

With one week remaining in the primary signup period, races for the May primary election races are beginning to take shape.

Mayor Chris McBarnes will be challenged by Frankfort City Councilman Lewis Wheeler for the mayor’s position. McBarnes will be seeking a third term as mayor, while Wheeler currently represents District 3 on the city council.

Five incumbent councilmen have decided to run in the primary. They are Clarence Warthan (District 1), Joe Palmer (District 2), Steve Beardsley (District 4), David Hussey (District 5) and Eric Woods (At-Large). At this time, councilman Jim Moyer has not filed to run in May.

Challengers for council positions include Gena Carson (District 1), Michael Brite (District 3), Brandt Fuller (District 5), Isac Chavez (At-Large) and J.J. Tate (At-Large).

Incumbent Judy Sheets has filed to run as Clerk-Treasurer and incumbent Matt Beardsley has filed to run for City Judge.

Eight people have filed to run for the Colfax Town Board. They are Republicans Regina Piper (Clerk Treasurer), Marty Stevens (Town Board), S.V. Scott (Town Board), Mike Brothers (Town Board), Gavin Jones (Town Board) and Julie Lewellen (Town Board) along with Democrats Dawn Northern (Town Board) and Madeline Sanders (Town Board).

Republican Brent Stetler has filed to run for Town Council in Kirklin.

The deadline to file for the May primary is Friday, February 8, at noon.
