First Piece of Adaptive Playground Equipment Purchased

The Board of Works on Wednesday afternoon approved the first piece of adaptive playground equipment for the City of Frankfort at a cost of $7,715 which includes $1,950 for the installation of the new equipment.

“It is a swing that basically has two swings on one structure that face each other,” said Frankfort Parks Superintendent Travis Sheets. “So, a parent, child or maybe siblings can swing together and gives comfort to the individual who might have some extra needs.”

The swing, which is called a “Friendship Swing”, will be located at Green Street Park, according to Sheets. It was purchased from Landscape Structures.

Sheets added he hopes to have at least one piece of adaptive playground equipment in each city park by some time next year.

“We have a group of folks trying to raise some money as well for this particular equipment,” said Sheets. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to come up with more funds eventually and add it to that project.”

In other news, the Board of Works approved lowering the admission to the TPA Park Pool to $1 for the remainder of the season.

“We’ve had a rough year,” said Sheets. “I had no idea that the pool was in the condition it was in until the results revealed themselves.”

Sheets said they lost three feet of water the first day after filling the pool which delayed the opening of the pool by at least two weeks. Also, the water slide has been closed all season because of the problems it has.

The pool closes for the season on Tuesday, August 7.
