Howard County Officials Receiving ‘Scam’ Reports

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the Kokomo Police Department are continuing to receive reports of “Scam” type telephone calls to local residents.

Recently potential victims have been contacted by a person identifying themselves as an employee of the Howard County Sheriff’s Department.  The victim is told an arrest warrant has been issued for them as a result of them not responding to a Jury Subpoena.

The caller describes to the victim how they can avoid being arrested by purchasing pre-paid cash cards in the amount of the “fine”. This is similar to a series of “Scams” that have circulated the last few years.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the Kokomo Police Department does not notify individuals with outstanding warrants or collect fines by telephone contact.

If at any time you receive a suspicious telephone call you may call the Howard County Communications Center at 765 457-1105 for verification.
