Washington street. When units arrived smoke and flames were visible from the east side of the structure. Firefighters immediately began fire suppression activities. There were no occupants in the structure. Battalion 1 immediately called for second alarm and 8 firefighters were called in to cover the city while all other FFD units were on the scene of the active fire. Battalion 1 then called for a general recall of all firefighters to report to the scene. During fire suppression activities a May Day was called for a firefighter down. The downed firefighter was quickly rescued by firefighters that were with him on the second floor. Firefighter Greg Miller a 32 year veteran with the Frankfort Fire Department was transported to IU Arnett for observation and released later in the day.

Chief John Kirby stated, “The heroism and professionalism displayed was second to none. I am proud of the job our firefighters accomplished while facing incredibly difficult odds. We also thank our local and regional partners who were there for us during this time of need.”

A request was made for another aerial apparatus and Lebanon Fire Department responded to the scene with Ladder 13 and 5 personnel. The Frankfort Fire Department and administration are very grateful for the response of the City of Lebanon Fire Department led by Chief Batts and Deputy Chief Wirey. We also thank the Volunteer Fire Departments from Michigantown and Rossville for covering our city during the time FFD was on the fire scene, Frankfort Police Department for keeping the scene secure, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office for helping maintain our perimeter and the use of an infrared drone, the Frankfort Street Department for blocking roadways, The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army for supplying drinks and food for all responders. We also thank the numerous local businesses and industries who provided food and supplies throughout the day. All Firefighters did a tremendous job by containing the blaze to 2 structures while battling high winds and inclement weather conditions. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the night to secure the scene and to combat any hot spots.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Frankfort Fire Department, Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, The ATF and many private insurance investigators. More information will be released upon the conclusion of the investigation.
