At approximately 12:50 a.m. Saturday, officers from the Indiana State Police, the Kempton Police Department, and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Tipton County Road 1125 West at Tipton County Road 50 North, in which a Kokomo man died.
The preliminary crash investigation by Senior Trooper A.J. Coffee revealed that Harley Mayhew, 40, Kokomo was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on County Road 1125 West, approaching a stop sign at County Road 50 North. The Tahoe did not stop for the stop sign and proceeded straight into a yard. The Tahoe then made frontal impact with a tree. Mayhew was found unresponsive and without a pulse. Tipton County Sheriff’s officers enacted life saving measures to include utilizing an automated external defibrillator.
Despite the life saving measures, Mayhew died at the crash scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash is still under investigation.
