Three Frankfort Police Department officers were honored for their valor and bravery by Indiana State Representative Mark Genda Monday night for rescuing a family from a burning house on the evening of April 3.
“I thought, we’ll give them our Medal of Valor along with Representative Genda’s resolution,” said Frankfort Police Chief Scott Shoemaker. “It kind of worked out. The officers have been recognized a lot. They’re pretty humble. They said they were just doing their job. They should be recognized.”
The three officers — Sergeant Andrew Snyder along with Officer Freddy Martinez and Officer Madison Douglass — were honored at the Board of Works meeting with a plaque from the Indiana General Assembly for their heroics in saving six members of a family, including a baby, from a burning house in the 800 block of Hawthorne Avenue.
Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets were asked her thoughts.
“I’m so happy he (Genda) took an interest in our local police department and all their heroics that night of the fire,” said Sheets. “I’m really proud of them and I think it’s great. It says a lot for him (Genda) to go to the House of Representatives and ask them to put together a resolution. I think it’s really exciting.”
