The Lebanon Community School Corporation finalized the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.
The school board approved the upcoming 2024-2025 calendar for the corporation with minor changes to previous iterations, such as a later start date for staff and students, beginning Aug. 1 for staff and Aug. 6 for students, a week break from the end of the second semester to graduation and the elimination of the staff day on Election Day.
“This does move the start date for both staff and students a bit later,” Superintendent Dr. Jon Milleman said. “That helps with some of that anxiety around those earlier starts as well. This does eliminate the staff day then on Election Day that we discussed the last time. However, the trade-off of starting late seemed to make sense to everyone.”
After numerous iterations and comments from the staff at the Lebanon Community School Corporation, the board was able to approve a calendar with a perfect split of the 180 days of school for the 2024-2025 school year.
“You can’t get much cleaner than a 90/90 split on your semesters, so that’s another thing that we cleaned up in this draft,” Milleman said. “There’s exactly 90 days in each semester.”
Notable dates for the first semester include Aug. 6 as the first student day of the 2024-2025 school year, Sept. 2 as “no school” for Labor Day, Sept. 25 as “no students” for professional development, Oct. 21 through Oct. 25 for Fall Break, Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving Break, and Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 for Winter Break. For the second semester, Jan. 6 will have “no students” for professional development, Jan. 7 will be the first student day for the second semester, Jan. 20 will have “no school” for a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Feb. 5 will have “no students” for professional development, Feb. 17 will act as a snow make-up day for Presidents’ Day, March 28 will have “no school,” March 31 through April 4 is Spring Break, May 26 will have “no school” in observance of Memorial Day, May 27 will have “no students” for professional development, May 28 and May 29 will act as snow make-up days if needed.
Sept. 5 will act as the first mid-term with Oct. 9 acting as the end of the first grading period. Nov. 18 will be the second mid-term with the second grading period ending on Dec. 20 alongside the end of the first semester. Feb. 7 will mark the first mid-term of the second semester with the third grading period ending on March 13. The second mid-term of the second semester will be on April 22 with the end of the fourth grading period on May 23 alongside the end of the second semester.
The Class of 2025 graduation will commence on May 30.
