Frankfort officially declared April as Work Zone Awareness Month at the April 9 Board of Public Works meeting to raise awareness for the safety of work zones.
Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets stated that with upcoming street projects and infrastructure projects across the city and county, the month of April will be dedicated to raise awareness for the rules and precautions that drivers and pedestrians must follow in the area to ensure the safety of themselves and the workers.
“Usually the month of April kicks off infrastructure projects which means work zones and orange barricades start to pop up,” Sheets said. “We have many of our City employees working in construction or work zones and I want our community to be cautious and pay attention when driving near work zones.”
Sheets read a proclamation to officially recognize April as Work Zone Awareness Month. The proclamation reads:
Whereas, The City of Frankfort recognizes the safety of workers along all Indiana roadways is paramount as they ensure the reliance of our community throughout the construction, improvement and maintenance of our city, county and state’s transportation system.
Whereas, in 2024 the City of Frankfort join the Benjamin J W Fisher Memorial Foundation, Inc. in support of the initiatives to expand work zone awareness for the month of April which is vital for the safety of all who work and travel on our Indiana roads.
Whereas, Governor Holcomb’s historic infrastructure investments, the INDOT Next Level Roads, combat road congestion, improve safety and ensure a more resilient transportation system for the state of Indiana.
Whereas, The City of Frankfort recognizes Indiana crews work in and around love traffic at all times of the day and recognizes drivers should use extreme caution in Work Zones by adhering to the posted Work Zone speed limits, and remove all distractions that hinder safe driving.
Whereas, The City of Frankfort and INDOT continues to do its part to improve the safety of workers by using innovative technology on our roadways which provides drivers with alerts about active Work Zones and helps drivers navigate the roadways safely and efficiently.
Now, therefore, I, Judith Sheets, Mayor of the City of Frankfort, call upon the citizens of Frankfort to join me in recognizing Work Zone Awareness Month by encouraging motorists to drive with extra caution in Work Zones and do hereby proclaim April 2024 as:
Work Zone Awareness Month
With the introduction of Work Zone Awareness Month alongside April being dedicated as Autism Acceptance Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Frankfort, Frankfort has officially recognized three proclamations for April 2024.
