The Frankfort Hot Dogs athletic teams have experienced a week of wins and losses across the spring sports as the Varsity baseball team bounces back from a loss while the Varsity tennis team experienced a close loss and the Varsity golf team placed second in a Sagamore Conference showdown with Danville and Lebanon.
The Hot Dogs Varsity baseball team bounced back from a loss on Tuesday night against Tri-West on Tuesday night by securing a 9-5 win over the Bruins last night. Alex Lopez pitched a strong 6-inning game before Matthew Berry took to the mound to round out the night on defense for the Hot Dogs. Aviel Santos led the offense for the Hot Dogs with four hits that helped to secure the victory by four runs.
As for the Lady Hot Dogs tennis team, a narrow match resulted in a 2-3 loss to the Clinton Prairie Gophers with Libby Pierce secured a victory at number 1 singles and Giselle Figueroa and Dalys Garcia Martinez secured a victory at number 2 doubles to capture the Hot Dogs’ two victories. A lineup shift also landed Jackie Castro at number 3 singles where she secured 9 total games during the match, showcasing her talent on the Varsity team.
The Hot Dog golfers competed against Lebanon and Danville for a Sagamore Conference showdown where Danville posted a team score of 168, which was followed by the Hot Dogs with 175 and the Tigers with 180.
Harrison Kiger and Matt Sutherland shared medalist honors with scores of 41, and Kiger was noted as the highlight of the match as he secured a 140-yard Eagle 2 on the par 4 fourth hole.
The Hot Dogs showed up big with Dylan Garrison securing a score of 43, Jackson Ray with 45, Charlie Beardsley with 46, Luke Beardsley with 48 and Xavier McIntosh with 58. Three members played in non-competing positions, including Garek Birge who recorded a personal best of 40, Kaleb Compton with 50 and Treye Seward with 61. The Hot Dogs will host Clinton Central on May 9 at The Frankfort Commons for their next showdown.
