The Zionsville Parks and Recreation Department announced that community members are invited to experience a new art installation along the Big-4 Rail Trail in Boone County with a special event slated for Thursday.
The department released information regarding new and unique mushrooms that have sprouted up along the trail over the weekend, which happen to be a temporary art installation by artist Denise Rollan Troyer that was inspired by nature and the native species of fungi that live alongside the trail.
“Denise drew inspiration from nature, particularly small growths and ecosystems that surround us,” the department released. “The world beneath our feet is rich with positive energy and communication, occasionally revealing itself above ground. Her sculptures feature familiar yet peculiar growth forms that symbolize potential future developments.”
Community members have been invited to join the department for a “Walk with the Artist” event on Thursday, May 16 beginning at 10 a.m. to explore the nature-based outdoor exhibit along the trail with a starting point of Carter Station at 4643 Pebblepointe Pass in Zionsville. Community members may register for the event at zionsvillein.myrec.com.
The installation of the temporary art has been funded through a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.
The event is only one of the numerous events occurring during Trailfest this year spanning from May 13 through May 18.
