Carroll Junior and Senior High School is hosting a Summer Swim Camp and Rec Swim beginning next week for non-swimmers, beginners, intermediates and recreational swimming.
The Summer Swim Camp kicks off June 10 through June 13 and June 17 through June 20 while the Rec Swim spans June 11 through July 25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Carroll Varsity Swim Team is organizing the Summer Swim Camp to teach community members the basics of swimming and water safety as important life skills. The Summer Swim Camp includes eight 1-hour sessions from Monday through Thursday during the allotted 2-week period where certified lifeguards will be on duty.
The non-swimmer, level one, class will teach students about going below the surface of the water, supporting themselves while floating on their back and front, flutter kicking while gliding, supporting themselves with a front crawl and jumping into the water. The non-swimmer class will span from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. during the Summer Swim Camp dates.
The beginner, level two, class will teach students about supporting themselves with front and back floating, rolling independently from front to back and back to front, gliding independently on their front and back, practicing crawl arms and legs from front and back and jumping into water that will gather above their head from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the Summer Swim Camp dates.
The intermediate, level three, class will teach students about gliding, freestyle swimming with side breathing, retrieving objects in deeper water, trading water and compact diving from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the Summer Swim Camp dates.
The Summer Swim Camp costs are $75 per student or a family cap of $200.
The Rec Swim will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the Rec Swim dates on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. The Rec Swim costs are $5 per person or $15 per family.
