The Delphi Opera House and Delphi Public Library have partnered together to form the Red Brick Theatre production of “Captain Fantastic!,” which will premiere tomorrow, Friday, July 19 at the Delphi Opera House.
Tickets are officially on sale for the production of “Captain Fantastic!” set for Friday, July 19 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Delphi Opera House.
The performance will feature around 19 youth in the community spanning from 7th-grade through 11th-grade as the youth capture the zany atmosphere of the characters.
“Captain Fantastic!” by Tim Kelly features Waldo Puppybreath, a fearless journalist who shocks the schoolyard with an editorial in the school paper detailing how the site for a new high school building is actually a swamp, which leads to an unamused land speculator. The high school bully, who is a dead ringer for the Godfather, is muscling in on the Prom Queen Contest while the biology teacher continues to demand Waldo’s resignation from the school paper with claims that his journalistic aspirations are distracting from his studies of the anatomy of a cat.
As he attempts to deal with the continuous troubles he experiences, Waldo seeks to draw strength from his comic book, Wonder Heroes. After a fight breaks out between Waldo and the school Godfather, the comic book is knocked to the ground, transforming his life into the colored pages of superheroes and unbelievable circumstances with the characters from Act One becoming eccentric versions of themselves.
The play is described as a fast-paced comic book farce with a zany romance, slapstick action and the trope of “good” prevailing over “evil.”
The play will be co-directed by Sara Daly Brosman, Sarah Cason, Julie Dennison and Kayla Gill through the Red Brick Theatre, a partnership of the Delphi Public Library and Delphi Opera House.
