Virgil G. Humphrey, 86, of Frankfort, died July 2, 2024 at Witham Hospital, Lebanon, Ind. He was born April 18, 1938 in Tippecanoe County, Ind. to Phillip Edward & Etta Mae (Stacey) Humphrey. He married Janice Forlow on December 24, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Frankfort and she survives.
Virgil was a 1956 graduate of Colfax High School, and played basketball there. He attended Purdue University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. Virgil retired from the the Nickle Plate Rairoad, where he was a switchman for over 25 years. While on the railroad, he was also manager of the Nickle Plate Credit Union from 1975-2000, retiring from there as well. He was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church. A 50-year member of the Jefferson Vesta Masonic Lodge, Virgil also became a dual member of other Masonic Lodges, including Clinton #54, was a member of the York Rite, Commandry and Scottish Rite, holding many positions within the Masonic Bodies. Virgil was an avid I.U. fan, enjoyed camping and fishing in Canada.
Virgil is survived by his wife: Janice Humphrey of Frankfort, daughter: Susie (John) Fitzgerald of Frankfort, son: David (Erica) Humphrey of Cary, NC, 3 grandchildren: John (Natasha) Fitzgerald of Frankfort, Sarah (Travis) Thieke of Kokomo, Lizzie Humphrey of Cary, NC and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Humphrey.
Funeral Services:
Visitatin will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8th at the funeral home, with Craig Overman and John Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
