The Clinton County School Safety Commission convened on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Frankfort Police Department. Chaired by Dr. Jim Hanna, the meeting together key stakeholders, including law enforcement, school officials and emergency responders.
The meeting opened with approval of the previous minutes, followed by presentations from key speakers. CSI Investigator Keshia Head from the Frankfort Police Department led a discussion on cybersecurity threats, focusing on cyberbullying and personal tracking via Bluetooth devices. She demonstrated the AirGuard app, which helps users detect rogue devices like Apple AirTags that could be used for criminal purposes. CSI Head also highlighted resources from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the importance of reporting through the CyberTipline.
George Bailey, Director of Purdue CyberTAP, offered insights into cybersecurity in education, emphasizing the risks schools face and providing recommendations for strengthening defenses.
Rossville, Clinton Prairie, Clinton Central, the Crossing, and Frankfort Schools shared updates, including new safety measures like enhanced communication systems, door hardware upgrades, and ongoing drills. Local emergency responders, including Central Dispatch and law enforcement, provided updates on new communication tools, expanded patrol areas, and preparations for responding to active shooter incidents.
The next Clinton County School Safety Commission meeting will continue focusing on enhancing school safety protocols across the district.
