Rossville Schools Approves Tentative Contract Agreement For Teacher Wages

The Rossville Consolidated School District announced that a tentative contract agreement was reached between the Rossville Classroom Teachers Association and representatives from the Board of Education to solidify a collaborative effort meant to ensure fair and competitive teacher compensation while maintaining compliance with state regulations.

The agreement was tentatively approved and focuses on salary, wages and wage-related benefits for the 2024-2025 school year.

Key Components:

  • Establishment of salary ranges for new hires based on years of service.
    • 0-4 years of service: $44,500 – $48,000
    • 5-9 years of service: $46,500 – $52,000
    • 10-14 years of service – $48,500 – $58,000
    • 15+ years of service – $50,500 – $62,000
  • A base salary increase of $500 for all returning teachers with additional increases based on years of service. Total increases range from $600 to $850.
  • Teachers will not earn less than $44,500 for a full-time contract, and the overall salary range will be $44,500 to $77,205.
  • Inclusion of an update to bereavement leave language and establishment of a base wage of $44,500 for the multiplier for the extracurricular salary schedule.

In compliance with Indiana law, the tentative agreement was posted on the district’s website and Gateway. The meeting to approve the contract is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Rossville High School. A public hearing will be set for the meeting for the public to voice concerns and support for the agreement before it is presented to the Board of Education for ratification. Superintendent Dr. Jim Hanna released a note regarding how the contract aligns with the budget.

It is important to note that all school contracts must comply with Indiana law and are subject to a compliance determination by the Indiana Education Employee Relations Board. In addition, Indiana schools are constrained by the biannual budget set by the Indiana Legislature. The current state budget will remain in effect until the Legislature reconvenes in January 2025 to develop the 2025-2027 biennium budget.

The RCTA ratified the tentative agreement on September 19, 2024. If approved by the Board of Education, this contract will ensure competitive wages for Rossville teachers while aligning with state fiscal policies and the District’s financial health.
