Delphi Police Respond To Report Of Aggressive Coyotes On Local Trail

Delphi Police Department deploys new department golf cart in case where caller was threatened by coyotes on local trail.

On Nov. 22 around 9 a.m., Carroll County E911 reportedly received a 911 call from a male stating that two coyotes aggressively approached him on Obear Trial behind Pizza Hut. Delphi Police Department Officer Justin Wilson obtained the department golf cart and his department-issued rifle and arrived on the trail system where he reportedly caught a glancing view of a coyote running into a tree line.

Wilson reportedly located the caller, who was holding a long stick to defend himself, and gave the male a ride back to his vehicle. No injuries were reported from the incident.

Community members with questions regarding coyotes, how to avoid being placed in a similar situation and more have been encouraged to visit the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish and Wildlife at in.gov/dnr. The department stated that coyotes may be a threat on trails due to aggressive and disease, such as rabies, and encouraged community members to contact local authorities if threatened by an animal while on the trails.
