Colfax and Darlington United Methodist Churches will be hosting special Christmas services on Christmas Eve to celebrate the holiday in German with opportunities for English-speaking attendees to hear more about the Christmas story.
At the Colfax church, located at 114 N. Oakland St. in Colfax, Pastor Esther Berger will preach a traditional German Christmas service beginning at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, with subtitles available in English. All preaching and singing will be in German. The community has been invited to join together for the unique service, and attendees are encouraged to accompany those with German heritage to partake in the service.
The service will continue at the Darlington church at 201 W. Harrison St. in Darlington beginning at 7 p.m., and the day will conclude with a traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve Service by Pastor David and Pastor Esther at 11 p.m. at the Colfax Church.
The community has also been invited to partake in the Colfax Hickory Community Dinner set for Dec. 17 with Colfax United Methodist Church members where community members may partake in a traditional German Dinner at The Gathering Place at 303 W. Main St. in Colfax. Paster Esther, who is from Switzerland, will be baking and preparing the meal with inspiration from her German roots.
