The City of Frankfort is thrilled to announce the completion of a beautiful new mural at Prairie Creek Park. This public art piece, created by talented muralist Ricardo Cortez, adds a vibrant and inspiring element to our community space —a project made possible through the generous funding and unwavering support of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

The decision to move forward with the mural was finalized in the spring of 2025 by the Board of Public Works, which approved the artist, location, and design. The mural’s location was revised to align with the original vision of the Community Foundation grant that supported the initial development of Prairie Creek Park. The location provided a safer and more accessible environment for the artist during the creation process.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Psi Iota Xi Sorority for their generous support in making this public art project a reality,” said Mayor Judy Sheets. “Their commitment to our community is truly commendable, and their funding allowed Ricardo Cortez’s talent to enhance Prairie Creek Park for all to enjoy. We are also thankful for the initial vision and seeing this project come to life.”

The community is invited to celebrate this wonderful addition with a special Mural Dedication Ceremony on Friday, October 4th, at 8:00 PM. The ceremony will take place at Prairie Creek Park, located at 260 East Washington Street, and will be held between performances during the Summer Concert Series.

This dedication is an opportunity to express our gratitude to Ricardo Cortez for his outstanding work and to demonstrate our sincere appreciation for the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. We look forward to seeing the community gather to admire this new artwork, which we believe will be a source of pride and joy for years to come.
