After a loss to Eastern and a bye week, Carroll bounced back in a big way with a win over Clinton Central, 49-8.
“Usually in football, when you lose, you hang on to it for a week,” Carroll coach Blake Betzner said. “But we got to hang on to it for two weeks. There was a pretty bad taste in our mouths for the last couple of weeks. We really prepared the kids to change our mentality and how we prepare and how we do things, and they did a nice job the last two weeks of buying in again and understanding ‘we’re going to get back to Carroll football’.”
The Cougars dominated in the running game, Aiden Wiles found the endzone three times in the first half, and Emery Deaton broke tackles for a 60-yard score.
“Carroll football is winning the line of scrimmage,” Betzner said. “It’s been that way for the last five years that we own the line, and that’s our goal every game. We really hit that hard this week.”
The offensive line was named The Farmers Bank Players of the Game.
Carroll quarterback Cale Peters wasn’t asked to do a lot in the passing game, but he flashed his speed early on, rushing for a 14-yard score to open the game. Later on, Peters connected with receiver Brody Ray for a long pass, setting up a short touchdown run from Aiden Wiles.
The Cougars took a 42-0 lead into halftime and controlled the second half clock, winning 49-8.
Carroll will be featured again on the Hoosierland TV Game of the Week on Friday when they take on Clinton Prairie.
The Bulldogs will take on Delphi in their final regular-season game of the year.
