Peru Jr./Sr. High School Investigation

Information Provided by ISP

The Indiana State Police Peru District is providing an update regarding the investigation stemming from a reported bomb threat at Peru Jr./Sr. High School.

After a thorough search of the school and continued investigative efforts, no threats or hazardous devices were located. Further investigation has determined the incident was the result of a swatting call.

What is swatting?
-Swatting is a serious and dangerous crime in which false information is intentionally reported to law enforcement to prompt an emergency response. These hoax calls often involve claims of bombs, weapons, or active threats. Swatting not only causes fear and disruption, especially in schools, but also diverts critical public safety resources and places students, staff, first responders, and the public at risk.

The Indiana State Police takes incidents of this nature seriously and will continue to pursue those responsible.

The investigation has revealed information linking those responsible to similar incidents in multiple locations across the country. The Indiana State Police will continue to work in coordination with our federal law enforcement partners to ensure a complete and thorough investigation.

We appreciate the cooperation and patience of the school, families, and community as we continue working to ensure public safety.
