The Rossville Fine Arts Program is celebrating a significant achievement following the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Vocal/Piano District Contest. All 16 Rossville student participants earned Gold Ratings, the highest possible distinction awarded at the district level.

Of those students, four performers competed at Group I, the most rigorous and demanding classification within ISSMA Solo and Ensemble. By earning Gold Ratings at this level, these students have qualified to advance to the ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contest, which will be held in the coming weeks at Perry Meridian High School.

ISSMA’s Solo and Ensemble events are widely regarded as one of the most challenging performance assessments for Indiana music students. Participants are evaluated by certified adjudicators on technical accuracy, musical interpretation, tone quality, and overall artistry. Group I performances, in particular, require advanced repertoire and a high degree of musical independence, often comparable to early collegiate-level expectations.

Choral Director Jordan Buck expressed immense pride in his students, emphasizing that their success is no accident. He noted that these results are the product of sustained effort, intentional preparation, and a willingness by students to push themselves beyond what feels comfortable. “These students challenged themselves to reach new levels of musicianship,” Buck said, “and in doing so, they are developing the kind of self-discipline, resilience, and ownership that will serve them far beyond a single performance or contest.”

The upcoming state qualification marks an important milestone for the four Group I students, placing them among the top solo and ensemble performers in Indiana. Their advancement continues Rossville’s strong tradition of excellence in fine arts performance and student achievement.
