District 41 State Representative Mark Genda told the WILO Radio audience on Friday, April 17 during the Party Line talk show that he wanted to hold a public meeting to hear and ask questions on a formal proposal to eliminate Property Taxes in Indiana. The presentation will be made by State Rep. J.D. Prescott of Union City. This will be the first such meeting in the state, Genda said.

This fact finding/listening meeting will be held Thursday, May 21st at 6 PM in the Skanta Theatre at the Frankfort Community Public Library. Genda said he has intentionally not heard any of the details but is interested in learning more about Prescott’s property tax elimination proposal.
Genda would “like to see 200 people attend the event.” If 200 do not attend, this will be an “indicator that there is not much interest in the idea,” Genda said.
Hoosierland TV will broadcast the event live for those who are unable to attend, but Genda would like those who are interested to try to attend the meeting in person if possible to improve interaction and engagement.
In an unrelated matter, Genda will be meeting May 1st with district 40 State Representative Gregory Steuerwald and State Senator Brett Clark, former Sheriff of Hendricks County and current member of the Indiana State Senate District 24. Steuerwald has been heavily involved in the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee at the State House. Clark served as President of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association and on the board of directors for the National Sheriffs’ Association from 2019-2022. This meeting will discuss possible legislation concerning changing Indiana law regarding continuity rules of any Sheriff serving their county in Indiana.
