Tomorrow is the last day for participants to register for the 2026 Hickory Hustle 5K & 10K Run and Kids Run and be guaranteed an official event T-shirt.
The annual race returns to Colfax on Saturday, August 1, as part of the Ole Hickory Days celebration. Weekend festivities begin with a community fish fry on Friday, July 31, followed by the races Saturday morning. The 5K and 10K begin at 8:30 a.m., with the Kids Run starting at 9 a.m.
This year’s event honors the memory of Joe Buedel, a longtime Colfax resident, Elder and Youth Leader at Colfax Christian Church, and dedicated member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
Buedel courageously battled Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) before passing away in July 2025. Organizers hope the race will celebrate his legacy of service, raise awareness of ALS, and provide support for the Buedel family.
All race proceeds and donations will benefit the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Buedel family.
The mostly flat race course features a scenic section of the Big 4 Trail, making it ideal for runners and walkers of all skill levels.
While registration will remain available on race morning at the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, today is the final opportunity to register and receive a guaranteed race T-shirt. Race-day registration opens at the fire department, 103 W. Main St., with the race beginning at the station and finishing at Colfax Christian Church, 314 S. Clark St.
After crossing the finish line, participants are invited to enjoy a free breakfast at Colfax Christian Church. Donations for breakfast are appreciated and will benefit the church’s Dorcas Ladies ministry.
