The Captain Harmon Aughe Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) will honor Revolutionary War veteran Robert Wright during a Patriot Gravesite Dedication Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Providence Cemetery near Mulberry.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which recognizes Wright’s service during the American Revolution and commemorates his final resting place with an official Patriot Gravesite marker.
The ceremony will be held at Providence Cemetery, located near 2202 N. County Road 580 West, Mulberry. (The listed address is a residence just south of the cemetery and is provided for GPS navigation.)
Sherry Stowers, Regent of the Captain Harmon Aughe Chapter, said the organization is working to identify and properly recognize every Revolutionary War patriot buried in Clinton County.
“As Regent of the Captain Harmon Aughe Chapter of the DAR, I am working to have the resting place of each of these brave men marked as a Patriot Gravesite,” Stowers said. “To do this, we must provide proof that the person buried here is the same man who served in the Revolutionary War. We then honor that patriot with a memorable dedication ceremony recognizing his service to our country.”
While the ceremony is open to everyone, organizers are especially inviting descendants of Robert Wright, along with local and state officials and patriotic organizations. Groups wishing to present a wreath or offer brief remarks during the ceremony are encouraged to contact Stowers in advance so they can be included in the program. Silk or artificial wreaths are welcome.
Attendees are encouraged to prepare for outdoor conditions by wearing comfortable shoes, as walking on uneven ground may be necessary. Guests may also wish to bring a lawn chair, water, and an umbrella or sweater depending on the weather. Limited seating will be available. Organizers also note the ceremony may include a traditional musket or rifle volley as part of the patriotic tribute.
The Robert Wright dedication will mark the fourth Revolutionary War Patriot Gravesite dedication completed by the chapter in recent years. Previously dedicated sites include:
- William Carter – Bunnell Cemetery, Frankfort (Sept. 17, 2023)
- Thomas Reagan – Old Town Cemetery, Kirklin (Oct. 5, 2024)
- Frederick Shaffer – Old Tennessee/Gray Cemetery, Middlefork (Sept. 14, 2025)
Other Revolutionary War soldiers known to be buried in Clinton County include John Applegate, Harmon Aughe, Thomas Harris, John Reed, John Wells and Matthias Young. The chapter is also researching several additional veterans whose service and burial locations are still being verified.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890, is a non-profit, non-political women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and supporting education.
