CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. — The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northern Clinton County and portions of central and north central Indiana through 1:45 p.m. EDT today.
The warning includes Carroll County, Tippecanoe County, northern Clinton County and western Howard County.
At approximately 12:49 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from about 9 miles west of Royal Center to 6 miles west of Monticello to near Remington. The storms were moving southeast at approximately 55 mph.
60 MPH Winds, Quarter-Size Hail Possible
The primary threats with these storms are 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.
The National Weather Service said hail damage to vehicles is possible, while strong winds could cause damage to roofs, siding and trees.
Locations impacted by the warning include Frankfort, Lafayette, West Lafayette, Delphi, Flora, Rossville, Shadeland, Dayton, Battle Ground, Mulberry, Camden, Burlington, Michigantown, Yeoman and Purdue University.
The warning also includes a portion of Interstate 65 between mile markers 159 and 184.
Seek Shelter Now
Residents in the warned area should take shelter immediately. The National Weather Service recommends moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with the storms and could lead to flash flooding.
Motorists should use extreme caution and never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around and find an alternate route if water covers the road.
The warning remains in effect until 1:45 p.m. EDT.
