Governor Braun Expands Affordable Housing in Carroll County Through READI 2.0

Office of Governor Mike Braun

Governor Mike Braun is advancing his affordability agenda in Carroll County with a new READI 2.0-supported housing development designed to increase homeownership opportunities and provide more housing for the county’s growing workforce.

State and local leaders broke ground today on Carriage Estates, a more than $28.9 million investment in Flora supported by a $2.5 million READI 2.0 allocation. The project will expand the community’s housing capacity through a new infrastructure buildout and site development of a 28-lot subdivision, including construction of eight energy-efficient single-family homes.

“Affordability is my top priority, and that includes making homeownership attainable for more Hoosiers,” said Gov. Braun. “For too many families, owning a home feels increasingly out of reach. We need to build more homes and put that part of the American dream back within reach, which is why I signed HB 1001 this year to cut red tape and increase Indiana’s housing supply. READI is another tool we’re using to accomplish that goal by creating more opportunities for Hoosiers to own a home while making sure communities like Carroll County have the housing they need for a growing workforce.”

The development will support increasing home ownership opportunities for residents while helping meet Carroll County’s growing workforce housing needs. Carriage Estates is one of numerous READI 2.0 projects in the Greater Lafayette Region focused on supporting the region’s growing talent pipeline.

“Affordable, quality housing is a critical component of vibrant and sustaining communities,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich. “Carriage Estates – along with Greater Lafayette’s broader READI investments in housing developments – sets the stage for Flora, for Carroll County and for the surrounding community to support an increase of workers and families that will power long-term economic growth.”

Indiana’s READI program is a $1.25 billion investment in regional-led strategies designed to strengthen communities, retain and attract top talent, and increase opportunities for Hoosiers for years to come.

Carroll County is part of the Greater Lafayette region – led by the Greater Lafayette Commerce Community and Economic Development Foundation – that was awarded $65 million in READI 1.0 and READI 2.0 matching funds to support quality of life, quality of place and quality of opportunity projects. The region’s READI investments, including Bowen Estates in Delphi, are designed to grow regional population in both rural and urban areas by focused investment at Purdue University to support the growing semiconductor Industry in Indiana, and supporting a concentrated effort to retain and development talent and attracting new workers to the region through investments in housing, quality of place and community vibrancy, the development of parks and trails, and investments in arts and culture.

“The Town of Flora is thrilled with these much-needed new residential home opportunities in Flora,” said Flora Town Council President Darrell Yoder. “We look forward to welcoming this new addition to our community.”
