VFW’s Veteran’s Park Improvements
Frankfort Board of Works members approved a request from VFW Post #1110 after representatives proposed their remodeling ideas for Frankfort’s Veteran’s Park. Included in their plan: 6 additional flag poles with flags of all 6 military branches, the planting of red poppies, and the remodeling of the gazebo. A permanent plaque with veteran’s names may also be added. Fundraising efforts have already begun with a Porkburger Sale earlier this month garnering $801.00. The board enthusiastically approved this effort. VFW will meet with Parks Department personnel later this week to draw up a final plan to present to the Board.
Youth Create Art for Prairie Creek Park
The BOW also approved the request for an art project created by Frankfort High School Welding Class to be installed at Frankfort’s Prairie Creek Park for next month’s Raices Festival. Kimberly Black, of Community Development & Engagement, reported the muralist, Richard Cortez, will be donating his talents, and the city’s Park and Street Departments will assist with installation.

Reported by Chief of Police Scott Shoemaker, new hire Benjamin McGinnis was sworn in earlier today. Coming with 2 ½ years of experience, after a short orientation and training period, he will be ready to serve in the community.
Fire Chief Matt Stidham says the progress on the new Fire Station #4 is “going well”. He also shared that the Fire Department is operating within its budget, and that a vacancy in the department will be filled soon.
Several waivers for rental costs were OK’d for local not-for profit groups and churches presented by Park & Street Department heads.
Park Rental Policy Change
Alicia Albertson, City Attorney, introduced a resolution regarding park rentals. In the past, in the case of cancellation, no refund of the deposit or fee were allowed. This new revision specifies that if a cancellation occurs prior to 30 days of the reservation date the fee will be refundable, although the $50 deposit will not. If the cancellation occurs within the 30 days, there will be no refunds. The resolution passed, effective immediately. These changes apply for rentals at all city parks and at the Frankfort Neighborhood Center.
And a required approval for the Readi Grant change orders covering the Meadowbrook Subdivision Phases & Sections was handled so that the project can move forward. With business complete, the meeting was adjourned.
