LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Caterpillar Inc. is planning another major investment in its Large Engine Center in Lafayette, with the company looking to invest approximately $890 million in the Indiana facility.
The planned investment would further expand and modernize Caterpillar’s Lafayette operations, which are a major part of the company’s manufacturing presence in Indiana.
Caterpillar’s Large Engine Center produces engines used in a variety of applications, including oil and gas, electric power, marine, rail and mining. The facility currently employs nearly 1,900 workers.
The new investment follows Caterpillar’s previously announced $725 million expansion of the Lafayette facility. That project included plans for a 300,000-square-foot addition, new machinery and equipment, and rail infrastructure, along with approximately 100 additional jobs.
The Lafayette facility has been an important economic driver for the region, and the latest planned investment would represent another significant commitment by Caterpillar to its Indiana operations.
