A Heat Advisory has been issued for much of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Indiana from 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, through 8 p.m. Thursday, September 3.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis issued the advisory Monday afternoon, warning that peak heat index values could reach 105 degrees each afternoon. Limited relief from the heat and humidity is expected overnight.
The advisory includes Clinton County and surrounding areas, as well as communities including Frankfort, Lafayette, Delphi, Lebanon, Crawfordsville, Kokomo, Indianapolis, Muncie, Anderson, Terre Haute, Bloomington and Columbus.
Hot temperatures combined with high humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions during the advisory, including:
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Limit time spent outdoors, especially during the afternoon.
- Take frequent breaks in air conditioning or other cool locations.
- Check on relatives, friends and neighbors, particularly those who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
The Heat Advisory is currently scheduled to remain in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday.
