The Captain Harmon Aughe Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution held a Patriot Grave Marking at Providence Cemetery, Mulberry, Indiana, on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
This service, honoring Robert Wright, was their fourth dedication in as many years. Other Patriots who have been honored include: William Carter, Bunnel Cemetery, Frankfort; Thomas Reagan, Old Town Cemetery, Kirklin; and Frederick Shaffer, Gray Cemetery, Middlefork.
The dedication service was the culmination of months of research and planning to honor a person who served in the American Revolution and is buried in Clinton County, Indiana.
A bronze plaque was placed at the grave of Robert Wright recognizing him as a Revolutionary War hero.
While the local DAR chapter planned and hosted the ceremony, they included many community organizations. The Clinton Central varsity choir sang the national anthem and the Clinton Prairie band brought a drum and fife corps. The FFA from both schools was there to help as needed. Frankfort American Legion Post 12 and Kirklin American Legion Post 310 were in charge of the color guard presenting our national colors as well as flags from the American Revolution era. Frankfort firefighter Sam Michael, Marine Corps Veteran, served as ceremonial guardsman. Hamilton County Navy Club Ship 29 presented the rifle volley, and Jacob Thorley sounded Taps.
Many people from the community came to help honor this Patriot and take part in the service. It was also an honor to have the DAR State Regent, Elaine Sholty; DAR Honorary State Regent, Charolette Blair; DAR State Chaplain, Margaret McGriff; DAR State Registrar, Theresa Green; DAR State Central District Director, Brenda Cotton; and CAR State President JT Voris. Indiana’s US Representative Jim Baird also attended. As a veteran himself, his remarks were especially memorable.
One of the goals of Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR, is to honor, Revolutionary War Patriots as they did with this Patriot Grave Marking. They also honor veterans with their Wreaths Across America project in which wreaths are placed on veterans’ graves at Christmas. This year’s dedication service will be Saturday, December 19, 2026, at 3 PM in Green Lawn Cemetery. Wreaths can be sponsored by contacting CaptainHarmonAugheDAR@gmail.com.
The National DAR objectives are historic preservation, education, and patriotism. It is the goal to honor heroes from long ago as well as local veterans and active military.
Chapter Regent, Sherry Stowers, stated, “We truly appreciate all of the support from our community as we honor these American heroes. Please plan to join us for our next Patriot Grave Marking. It is planned for September 2027.”
Congressman Baird also honored commander Joe Root for his many accomplishments in his life time of service to his country and community. photos are included below
