Rossville Consolidated School District extends its sincere appreciation to the Clinton County Daily News for keeping the public informed about the outstanding work taking place in our schools.
Athletic events often receive well-deserved media attention, and we appreciate the recognition our student-athletes receive. However, so much more happens in schools each day that the public may never see. From the first bell until dismissal, classrooms are filled with learning, encouragement, problem-solving, creativity, and relationship-building.
The Clinton County Daily News helps bring those stories to the community. Its recent coverage has highlighted Rossville students earning College Board recognition, our FFA Crop Scouting Team placing seventh in the Midwest, National Honor Society members leading a community blood drive and art students transforming donated pumpkins into colorful hallway displays. The online news reports have also shared stories about academic achievement, student safety initiatives, and the many opportunities available to our students.
Each story provides the public with a window into the daily life of our schools. More importantly, the coverage recognizes the students and employees whose hard work might otherwise go unnoticed.
Relationships are at the heart of education, and many do not end when a student graduates. Yesterday, I was honored when one of my former college professors, Dr. Greg Ulm, stopped by for a visit. While working on my Doctor of Philosophy degree, I didn’t know Dr. Ulm had connections to Clinton County. I later learned that his brother was one of four military generals from the county. That discovery was another reminder of how education, relationships, and community history remain connected across generations.
Schools today are very different from the schools people attended, whether they graduated five years ago or 50 years ago. The responsibilities placed upon teachers, administrators and support staff continue to grow. The work is challenging, but these dedicated professionals show up each day determined to make a difference in the lives of the children they serve.
It is encouraging when both the achievements and challenges of our schools are recognized by local media. The Clinton County Daily News does not limit that recognition to Rossville. It consistently shares the stories of students and educators throughout Clinton County, helping residents better understand the important work happening in every school community.
Thank you, Clinton County Daily News, for looking beyond the scoreboard and celebrating the learning, service, creativity, and relationships that define our schools. Please keep up the good work. I, along with many others, genuinely appreciate it.
