Buchanan Sworn In As New State Senator

Indiana’s newest state senator has been sworn into office. Senator Brian Buchanan (R-7) fills the seat left vacant by former senator Brandt Hershman, who stepped down at the beginning of the year.

Buchanan was selected in late January to take Hershman’s spot by a caucus of Republican precinct committee members. He represents Indiana’s 7th district, which covers White County and portions of Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Jasper and Tippecanoe counties.

“I am grateful to have this opportunity to serve the great people of Senate District 7,” Buchanan said in a news release. “Sen. Hershman left a tremendous legacy on our state, and I will have big shoes to fill. However, as a resident of Lebanon and a former member of the Boone County Council, I am familiar with the issues facing our community and state, and I am ready for this challenge and eager to get to work.”

Buchanan works for his family’s business, Fort Wayne-based Buchanan Hauling and Rigging Inc., and previously served as an at-large member of the Boone County Council. He is also a former executive director of the Indiana FFA Foundation.
