On Sunday afternoon, the Boone County Homicide Task Force has confirmed the death of 23-year-old Samuel Thomas Bennett, of Zionsville. Bennett was located near the Zionsville Rail Trail early Sunday morning,deceased of apparent gunshot wounds.
At this time, Homicide Task Force Detectives, along with the Prosecutors Office, are working diligently on all leads. Zionsville Police are asking the public to come forward if they know of any information regarding this tragedy. At 6:07 a.m., the Boone County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls of shots fired near the area of the Rail Trail behind the Zionsville Town Hall. Responding Zionsville Police Department units searched the area but went unfounded due to early morning darkness. Approximately one hour later, at 7:15, a resident called 911 to say they saw a body in a small retention area near the Zionsville Rail Trail.
