Christmas Eve Shooting on I-65 Leaves One Person Injured

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, emergency crews were dispatched to the area of I-65 northbound near 21st Street for a possible shooting. Callers were reporting to 911 dispatchers that a male was down on the side of the road possibly suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers from IMPD, along with crews from IFD were first on scene. The male victim was found to have a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives from the Indiana State Police currently have three suspects in custody. They are being interviewed about their possible involvement in this incident. The victim has been upgraded to stable condition and is expected to survive. This is an ongoing investigation and detectives are still processing evidence and interviewing possible witnesses.

This shooting is not believed to be road rage or a random act of violence. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release. The identity of the suspects will only be released in the event probable cause is developed and an arrest is made.
