City Playgrounds Closed to Reduce Spread of Coronavirus

Frankfort Parks Department announced Thursday afternoon that all city-owned playgrounds and basketball courts will be closed effective immediately and will remain closed until further notice to comply with measures outlined by state officials. The closure of playground facilities and basketball courts is intended to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus and protect the health of Frankfort residents and families.

Frankfort Parks Department Superintendent Bart Kraning said that the parks will remain open and accessible for walking, hiking, and running but noted that it is crucial for park visitors to maintain safe physical distances from other park users.

“Engaging in outdoor activities is permitted under Governor Holcomb’s stay at home order, so we want our parks to be available for recreational use. At the same time, we want people to refrain from using the playground equipment and practice social distancing,” Kraning said.

All park restrooms and shelters are also closed until further notice. Residents should contact the parks department at (765) 659-3422 for details or with questions regarding specific city parks.
