CSF Board of Education Reviews Schematic Update for Middle School

The Community Schools of Frankfort Board of Education  received a schematic design budget update Tuesday night from the contractors working on the renovation of the Frankfort Middle School.

They are trying to fit four main items into the Middle School which are secured entrances, enlarging the cafeteria, a new music department and a new roof.

They did run into a problem from the schematic — something that is below the line of things they’d like to have in the project, but right now, can’t afford it.

“We’re kind of at a spot where we need to find a million dollars for seventh grade classrooms,” said CSF Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda. “They have some ideas about reducing some square footage in areas. But, we also don’t want to compromise. This is a one shot at getting a great music wing.”

During a public walk through in April of 2022, a $22 million project which showed many of the same problems the high school had prior to its renovation.

Rhoda said the team of contractors have been working very hard on trying to get the numbers to fit.

“Our next step is that team will go back and take the board’s guidance on the priority to get the seventh grade science rooms in,” said Rhoda. “After they do that, they’ll reach out to me and to the middle school if they’re still a little stuck and we’ll try to come up with ways to make it happen.”
