Frankfort to Celebrate Prairie Creek Park Grand Opening

The City of Frankfort will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and officially open the Prairie Creek Park on Saturday, May 22, at 260 East Washington Street. This park project began in January 2019 and was made possible through the generous sponsorship of numerous local businesses and individuals. The new park includes a splash pad, event center, beer garden, and amphitheater.

Frankfort Parks Department employees are preparing entertainment and activities as the city presents this new venue for residents and guests to the community. Mayor Judy Sheets and City Council representatives will host a reception for park sponsors and donors before the park opens to the community at 4 p.m.

The grand opening event will include live musical performances and food vendors. Weather permitting, the splash pad will be open to the public at 4 p.m. and will close prior to the start of the concerts.

Endless Summer Band will be performing with Lloyd Avenue is scheduled as the opening act.

Parks Department Superintendent Bart Kraning said, “We have been looking forward to opening this park for quite some time. It is exciting to finally be able to share the benefits of this park with the community.”

The park project was originally scheduled to be finished and opened in 2020 before all city-sponsored events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Frankfort and the Frankfort Parks Department will be following CDC guidelines and the governor’s recommendations for hosting outdoor concerts including social distancing and wearing masks.
