Kermit William McGarey

Kermit William McGarey, 85, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 15, 2022, at IU Frankfort Hospital.

Kermit was born February 11, 1937, in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, to John William and Ilene (Miller) McGarey.  After living in Brookville, Pennsylvania, he moved to Frankfort in 1956.  On June 14, 1958, Kermit married Judy Sherman, and they shared 64 loving years together.

After working 11 years at Federal Mogul, Kermit worked 47 years at Welty Custom Exteriors, retiring in 2018.  He also served as a Special Deputy with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department for 14 years and was named “Clinton County Gem” in 2018 by the Clinton County Historical Society.

Kermit was a member of Frankfort First Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir for 30 years, and served as trustee on the Church Board for 35 years.  He was also a volunteer for six years with the Frankfort Civil Air Patrol.

Surviving Kermit are his wife, Judy; daughter, Jeannie Elizabeth (Larry) Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Tracy Patrick (Angela) McGarey of Louisville, Kentucky; and sister-in-law, Nancy McGarey of Port Orange, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rev. James Edward McGarey.
