Mandi Mitchell was sworn in as a new board member for the Community Schools of Frankfort Tuesday night.
“I am from Frankfort, I graduated from Frankfort and my family graduated from Frankfort,” said Mitchell when asked why she pursued this position. “In a world where kids seem to be told you can’t do this and you can’t do that, I want to be a part of a board that is going to equip them to do anything they want to do.”
Mitchell replaces Jeff Tatum, who resigned earlier this year.
“I am very happy to be a part of the Community Schools of Frankfort board,” said Mitchell. “I am very excited. I thought about it for a long time. The opportunity came up sooner than I expected.”
Superintendent Don DeWeese says Mitchell is the right person for the position.
“Our board just felt like that she could add some expertise on school funding plus the long-standing Frankfort native is vested in this school district and she wants our schools to be successful,” said DeWeese. “I think Mandi is going to be an outstanding board member for us.”
Mitchell’s financial experience comes from being the treasurer for the Clinton Prairie School Corporation.
Also, the board recognized its Teachers of the Year at the five schools that comprise the district. Those honored were Debra Peart (Frankfort High School), Amanda Long (Frankfort Middle School), Josh Marshall (Green Meadows), Amanda Roberts (Suncrest) and Amy Perez (Blue Ridge).
“Those five teachers are so deserving of this,” said DeWeese. “They are all so talented and they make such a difference in the lives of our children in the school district. You can just go on and on with all the wonderful superlatives of how talented they are and how devoted they are.”
Board member Sandy Miller announced that the Clinton County Building Trades group will have an open house from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, at the latest house they built at 1648 Broadmoor.
Miller said there are a total of 39 students in the class representing all four county schools. A recognition for those students will begin at 6:30 p.m. The class is taught by Ray Santos.
Miller added that next year’s project for the class will be at the corner of Barner and Main.
The board also approved the dissolution of sixth grade football. DeWeese said the team is low in numbers and having trouble finding teams to play.
