Pagenaud Captures Indy 500, Earns $2.7 Million

Simon Pagenaud is the winner of the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500 and Monday night received $2.7 million at the Indy 500 Victory Banquet. Pagenaud edged out Alexander Rossi to win his first 500, just weeks after taking the checkered flag to win the INDYCAR Grand Prix.

Pagenaud also became the first polesitter to win the race since his teammate Helio Castroneves accomplished the feat in 2009. The win is the 18th Indy 500 victory for Team Penske, which continues to be the most of any team.

Pagenaud beat Rossi by 0.2086 of a second to take the checkered flag. Takuma Sato, who won the 2017 race, finished third, followed by Pagenaud’s teammates Josef Newgarden and Will Power, who won both Indy races last year.

Rossi earned nearly $760,000, while Sato took home more than $540,000.

Indianapolis has become a good spot for Pagenaud, who before this year had won two INDYCAR Grand Prix races, including the inaugural race in 2014. Since that time, only Pagenaud and Power have won the race.
