Playgrounds Remained Closed as Parks Reopen Friday

Frankfort Parks Department will safely reopen park facilities this Friday, May 22. However, not everything will reopen as planned.

The City of Frankfort received clarification late Thursday from the Governor’s office that the playgrounds have been removed from Stage 3 of the Back on Track Indiana plan. As a result, they will not be able to open the playgrounds on Friday. They will update the public when a new date has been determined.

Opening on Friday will be the basketball courts, pickle ball courts, the skate park and public restrooms as planned.

Parks Department Superintendent Bart Kraning confirmed that measures will be taken to clean playground equipment prior to reopening, but says, “We ask the community for your patience while our department reaches all of the parks and park amenities. There will be signs posted to remind the community that equipment should be used ‘at your own risk’. Also, remember that once the playground equipment has been cleaned and opened to the public, we will rely on parents and guardians to play an active role in cleaning equipment before use.”

Residents are reminded to observe the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines when visiting any park. Social distancing of at least 6 feet from anyone outside your household should be observed, protective face coverings should be worn, and frequent hand washing should be practiced.
