Ruth Jones

Ruth Jones passed away quietly from cancer on August 8, 2020, at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, Indiana.

She was born on November 6, 1921, to Everett and Marie Jacobs in Marengo, Iowa. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1939 and worked as a secretary for the town dentist.  She married Lieutenant Russell G. Jones at the First Methodist Church of Marengo, Iowa, on April 17, 1943, and began her life as an Army wife.  They were married for 70 years.

During their years together, Ruth was active in the Red Cross and as a choir member in various military chapels.  In addition, she played piano, organ, and violin.

She moved to Frankfort after her husband’s retirement from the Army in 1973, where he taught Jr. ROTC in the high school.  They became members of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, where Ruth sang in the choir and was active in circles and the United Methodist Women.  In later years, she was a regular volunteer in the church office.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, as sister, Lois Jacobs, and her husband.  She is survived by her daughter, Sara Jones Taylor of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren, Anthony, Austin, and Rebecca Taylor; and a son-in-law, Cecil Taylor.

Private family services will be held at St. Matthew United Methodist Church on Friday, August 14, at 11:00 am.  The service will be live-streamed and available to view at www.gendafuneralhome.com.  Interment will be in Marengo, Iowa.

Memorial contributions in Ruth’s honor may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1951 Wilshire Drive, Frankfort, IN  46041.  Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort is entrusted with the arrangements.
