Frankfort’s version of the Olympic Games kicks off at 1 p.m. Monday when the 2017 Senior Olympics, sponsored by Genda Funeral Home, gets underway at Wesley Manor.
“It started out and why it’s still in May was the announcement that May is Senior Month,” said organizer Mark Genda of Genda Funeral Home. “From that, I started putting together this idea of Senior Games. It was a very small grassroots idea. I never thought it would blossom into what it has now. But, that’s exactly what has happened.”
Senior Olympics is for those individuals 55 years of age and older and events will run throughout the majority of May. Genda said the number of events and participants keeps growing plus participants are coming from outside of Frankfort.
Team Trivia is the first event being held.Other events are ping pong, 1- 2- and 6-mile bike races, sequence, 1- and 3-mile walking races, 8-ball pool, dominoes, bean bag toss, bid euchre, bridge, horseshoes, bowling, puzzles, croquet, euchre, Texas hold ’em, 9- and 18-hole golf, bocce ball, shuffleboard, corn toss, pinochle, skipbo, basketball, rummikub, bingo and a walking relay. The closing ceremony is scheduled for Bergen Hall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31.
