On August 5, 2026, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kedrick Miller, 41, of Thorntown, on a felony arrest warrant following an investigation into a July 18, 2025, incident involving the reported shooting of an occupied agricultural aircraft in Boone County.
Following the investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division, the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of Attempted Murder, Level 1 Felony; Attempt to Commit Disrupting the Operation of an Aircraft, Level 4 Felony; Criminal Recklessness, Level 5 Felony; and Intimidation, Level 6 Felony.
Miller was taken into custody without incident by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and was transported to the Boone County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending court proceedings.
Sheriff Tony Harris advised that, “This case serves as a reminder that decisions made in the heat of the moment can have serious and lasting consequences. Any time a firearm is intentionally discharged at an occupied aircraft, it creates an extremely dangerous situation with the potential for catastrophic consequences. Pilots operating agricultural aircraft provide an important service to our farming community and deserve to do their jobs without being placed in harm’s way. The alleged actions in this case presented a significant risk not only to the pilot, but to anyone on the ground who could have been affected if that aircraft had been forced down or a bullet had gone astray.
Too often, people are quick to act instead of taking a moment to think through the consequences of their actions. We are grateful no one was injured in this incident. Our investigators worked diligently to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation before presenting the case to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office. We hope this case serves as a reminder that firearm safety is a shared responsibility and that reckless actions that endanger others will be taken seriously. Protecting the safety of our community, whether on the ground or in the air, will always remain one of our highest priorities.”
