Treasurer Mitchell Completes Statewide 911 Tour

State Treasurer Kelly MItchell visits one of the 25 Public Service Answering Points that she did around the state in August.

Treasurer Kelly Mitchell spent much of August visiting twenty-five PSAPs (Public Service Answering Points) throughout the state of Indiana.

“Each dispatch center is unique, but a consistent thread throughout all the centers was the high caliber and commitment of the telecommunicators,” commented Treasurer Mitchell. “We discussed training practices and standards, and I saw Text-to-911 in action on many occasions.”

The tour focused on the top twenty-five PSAPs who utilize Text-to-911 in Indiana. This year, 2018, marks the second year of statewide Text-to-911 services being available to all Hoosiers. During its first year, 173,213 text sessions occurred to and fromtelecommunicators. The following year that number increased to 214,515 text sessions. The Statewide 911 Board continues to provide a public service campaign to inform Indiana residents of this service.

Ed Reuter, Executive Director of the Statewide 911 Board, had this to say about the Treasurer’s visits: “The success of Text-to-911 services in Indiana is due to the dedication of the men and women who serve as telecommunicators across this state. I am grateful that the chair of the Statewide 911 Board, Treasurer Mitchell, was able to take the time away from her busy schedule to personally thank the telecommunicators for the exceptional work they do every day.”

The tour included stops in the following counties: Allen, Batholomew, Clark, Clinton, Crawford, Dubois, Elkhart, Grant, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Kosciusko, Lake, LaPorte, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Noble, Porter, Spencer, Vanderburgh, Vigo and Wayne. Her tour actually began with her stop in Clinton County.
