Utility work is underway in preparation for the second phase of roadwork on Washington Avenue. This road resurfacing project will begin once AT&T and Vectren have completed their portion of the project.
“We are expecting road closures on Washington Ave beginning April 3,” said Street Department Superintendent Jason Forsythe. “Work will begin on Monday, April 5. We will ensure that all residents in that area continue to have access to their homes.”
This project will rebuild Washington Avenue from Burlington Avenue to Washington Street and is expected to be completed by early October 2021. Additional updates will be provided as work progresses.
Trees Being Cleared on SR 28
Trees are being cleared on State Road 28 this week in preparation for an INDOT road project. This project will improve traffic flow through Frankfort, provide new sidewalks, and resurface State Road 28. This project is funded and operated through the state of Indiana and is not controlled by the city of Frankfort or the Frankfort Street Department.
The trees are required to be cleared between November and March to protect wildlife. The Indiana and northern long-eared bats are afforded special protection under the Endangered Species Act. Because these species of bats hibernate in the winter, they are not using the trees, so winter is the ideal time to clear trees.
The next phase of this project will be utility work that will need to take place before the roadwork can begin. Through each phase of this project, the city of Frankfort and the Frankfort Street Department will work to keep residents updated and informed.
